Chapter 11: Joining the Production Team

A dog's ability to recover is quite rapid. Hongdou's wounds healed day by day, its fur growing back. Initially confined to its bed, it could now go for walks with Yu Diandian. Watching Hongdou's recovery, Yu Wan finally felt relieved.

Yu Wan got ready and headed out. She had arranged to meet Luo Xi the day before, so she took the script for "Wolf Smoke" with her.

As soon as Luo Xi saw Yu Wan, she eagerly pulled her aside, asking about the hidden plot points of "The Final Pendulum." Yu Wan gave her a helpless look. "If I reveal that to you, won't it ruin the suspense?"

Luo Xi replied, "But you've been updating so infrequently lately! I can't stand the wait."

Yu Wan retorted, "Well, isn't that because I'm preparing for the task you assigned me? I've been putting most of my effort into 'Wolf Smoke.'"

Luo Xi made a face. "Fine, fine. It's my fault, I suppose."

"Glad you realize that."

Luo Xi became serious. "The script is almost finished, right?"

"Yes, it's ready for filming. You can take it back for review; some parts might still need revisions."

Luo Xi nodded. "'Wolf Smoke' is about to start filming, Yu Wan. I have to tell you, you might need to be with the production team."

"Huh?"

"You're the screenwriter. You need to be there in case we need to modify lines or plot points on the spot."

Yu Wan frowned.

Luo Xi continued, "But don't worry, you won't have much to do. It'll be quite relaxed. You can rest at the hotel or go to the set if you want."

Yu Wan wasn't concerned about how relaxing it would be. She was thinking about Yu Diandian, who would have to stay at the pet boarding facility again, even though Yu Diandian had frequently stayed there when she went on trips before.

And there was also the matter of her promise to cook for Shen Qingzhou and Hongdou…

"How long will it take?"

"You'll definitely need to be there for the first month. After that, we'll see." Luo Xi noticed Yu Wan's hesitation. "What's wrong? Is it inconvenient for you?"

"No…" Yu Wan replied, "I'll make arrangements. I'll go." After all, it was her script; she couldn't just leave it unattended.

"Alright." Luo Xi handed her a document. "This doesn't really concern you, but I thought you might be curious. This is the list of selected actors and all the crew members."

"Oh." Preoccupied with the thought of being away for a month, Yu Wan casually stuffed the document into her bag.

"Then I'll be going. Yu Wan, the opening ceremony is in three days. You should come to Beijing in a week."

"Okay."

That evening, Yu Wan went to the supermarket to buy groceries before returning home.

While cooking in Shen Qingzhou's kitchen, Yu Wan was thinking about how to tell him the news.

"Dinner's ready." She set the table and sat down. Shen Qingzhou sat opposite her, picked up his chopsticks, and began to eat.

Yu Wan ate a few bites absentmindedly, glancing at Shen Qingzhou from time to time. She must have looked at him too many times, because he finally put down his chopsticks and asked, "What do you want to say?"

Yu Wan blinked. "How did you know I wanted to say something?"

Shen Qingzhou looked at her calmly. Anyone could see through her nervous behavior.

Seeing him silent, Yu Wan said, "I won't be able to come and cook for you for a while."

Shen Qingzhou replied, "Oh."

"I have to go away for work for a while, and it might be quite a long time. You and Hongdou, remember to be self-sufficient."

"Mm."

Shen Qingzhou's reaction was too calm, and Yu Wan felt a little hurt. Was she really that unimportant? She was going to be gone for a month! Shouldn't they be secretly weeping at the thought of not being able to eat her cooking?

Not giving up, Yu Wan continued, "I'm going to Beijing, for at least a month, maybe even three or four months."

"I know."

"Huh?"

Shen Qingzhou put down his chopsticks. "Coincidentally, even if you weren't leaving, you wouldn't need to cook for me for a while, because I also have to go away."

Yu Wan was surprised and forgot to question what he meant by "I know." "What about Hongdou?"

"I'll leave it in the care of a professional pet boarding facility."

"Oh…" Yu Wan asked, "How long will you be gone?"

"A few months. I'm leaving in two days, so you won't have to cook soon."

Yu Wan felt a little disappointed. It seemed they wouldn't see each other for several months. Having seen each other every day recently, she had grown accustomed to it.

"Okay, work hard. See you in a while. Um… you can stop paying me for now."

Shen Qingzhou raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes. Yu Wan was looking down at her bowl, so she didn't see his expression.

Two days later, Shen Qingzhou indeed left, and Hongdou was sent away as well. Although Yu Wan felt depressed, she couldn't help it and had to start preparing for her own trip.

A few days later, at Beijing Capital International Airport.

"Hello, are you here to pick me up?" Yu Wan saw a young man in his twenties holding a sign with her name on it.

"Are you Wei Wan? Sister Luo Xi sent me to pick you up."

"Yes, that's me."

"Okay, this way, please. Our car is outside."

Yu Wan nodded and followed him, calling Luo Xi on the way to confirm. After getting in the car, Yu Wan asked, "Are we going directly to the hotel or the set?"

"The director, producer, and actors are having dinner at the XX Hotel. Sister Luo Xi said to bring you there to meet everyone."

"Alright."

Upon arriving at the hotel, the young man who picked her up arranged for her luggage to be sent to her room first, then led her to the private room reserved for the "Wolf Smoke" production team.

Just as they were about to arrive, Yu Wan saw Luo Xi standing outside the door. Seeing Yu Wan, Luo Xi quickly walked over. "You're finally here!"

"Yeah, the flight was a little delayed." Yu Wan glanced behind her. "Do I really have to go in? I don't know anyone."

"The staff will introduce you, and you'll get to know them. As for the actors, you definitely know them."

Yu Wan hesitated, then said awkwardly, "Luo Xi, I'm… not familiar with the actors."

Luo Xi looked at her in disbelief. "They're all incredibly popular right now, like Xiang Zeran and Li Mengmeng. It's impossible not to know them."

Yu Wan gave a dry laugh. "I really don't know them."

Luo Xi stared at her incredulously. "Yu Wan, are you living under a rock? Didn't you look at the document I gave you? The cast list is in there. You really don't pay attention to the actors in your own script?"

Yu Wan forced a smile. She really didn't want to admit that she had forgotten about it.

"Forget it, it doesn't matter. You'll get to know them eventually." Luo Xi took her arm and pushed open the door, pulling Yu Wan inside.

"Hey everyone, look who's here! It's our esteemed screenwriter, Wei Wan!" Luo Xi announced loudly. Yu Wan felt a drop of sweat roll down her forehead. This was a bit embarrassing.

At Luo Xi's announcement, everyone at the table turned to look at the door.

Li Mengmeng, the female lead of "Wolf Smoke," had naturally read the novel thoroughly. The story was captivating and exciting, and she had long wanted to meet the author.

However, the moment she saw Yu Wan, her jaw dropped in surprise. She stood up, astonished. "You're Wei Wan?!"

Yu Wan looked at the girl who spoke and nodded. "Hello."

"Oh my god, Wei Wan is a girl?? And such a…" Li Mengmeng struggled to find the right adjective. After a moment, she said, "…such a cute girl? I thought you were a man!"

Li Mengmeng's words resonated with everyone present. The male lead, Xiang Zeran, was also surprised. He had read the novel, and the plot structure was incredibly intricate. The young woman before him seemed too young to have written such a novel.

"Hello everyone, I'm the screenwriter, Wei Wan." Yu Wan felt she should at least offer a polite greeting.

"Wei Wan, the great writer! Come sit, come sit." The producer patted the seat next to him, gesturing for her to sit. Yu Wan nodded to the producer, and Luo Xi pulled her over to sit down.

"Yu Wan, let me introduce you to the director of our drama." Luo Xi whispered, then gestured for her to look up. "There, our director is Shen Qingzhou, the renowned Director Shen. It's also in the document I gave you. Oh… I forgot you didn't even look at it."

Shen, Qing, Zhou?

Yu Wan's mind went blank. She hadn't looked around since entering the room. Apart from Li Mengmeng, who had spoken to her, Yu Wan had no idea what anyone else looked like.

So, when she heard the name Shen Qingzhou and saw the person sitting directly opposite her, she was stunned. The person she thought she wouldn't see for several months had suddenly become the central figure in her work. Yu Wan was so surprised that she forgot to be happy.

She stared at him blankly. He sat there casually, impeccably dressed, with an air of aloof elegance. His light tea-colored eyes were fixed on her, and she had the feeling, perhaps mistakenly, that there was a hint of amusement in them.

"Mr. Shen?"

"You're the screenwriter, right? Hello." Shen Qingzhou greeted her in a businesslike tone.

Yu Wan blinked. "Hello…"

Shen Qingzhou nodded slightly. "Did you just arrive today?"

"Yes, I just got to the hotel."

"Mm, I've read the script. We'll need to discuss the details later. Come find me later." Shen Qingzhou said.

Yu Wan nodded, her heart beating a little faster.

After saying this, Shen Qingzhou stopped talking to her. His expression and tone made it seem as if he didn't know her at all. He had already turned to talk to the staff member next to him.

Yu Wan looked away, slightly annoyed that she hadn't properly looked at what Luo Xi had given her. No wonder he had said he knew she was going to be away for a long time when she was at his house for dinner that day. She had thought he was just saying it casually, but it turned out he really did know.

He was the director; he must have had her information. He knew she was the screenwriter all along? He was really good at pretending, not telling her a thing for so long.

However… a little joy bloomed in Yu Wan's heart. This meant that she would still be spending time with him every day for a while, just in a different place, and without those two little ones around to cause a ruckus.
