Pampering My Cute Pet
Chapters ListChapter 12: The Screenwriter
“Weiwan, would you mind telling me how old you are?” Li Mengmeng looked at her curiously. “Xiang Zeran and I have been guessing. You look really young.”
They were making small talk at the dinner table. When Li Mengmeng asked this, everyone’s attention focused on Yu Weiwan. She subconsciously glanced at Shen Qingzhou. He gave her a casual look, an expression that seemed…mocking?! Excuse me? Although she was often asked this question, it wasn’t a bad question, was it? It made her seem youthful, which was okay, right?!
“I’m in my twenties, neither too young nor too old,” Yu Weiwan glared at Shen Qingzhou discreetly. A hint of a smile flickered across Shen Qingzhou’s lips.
“Ah~” Li Mengmeng smiled at her. “So cute! It’s wonderful to have such a cute screenwriter in our production team.”
Yu Weiwan gave a dry laugh. This female lead…could she please stop talking to her? She didn’t really enjoy being the center of attention. However, to Yu Weiwan’s dismay, Li Mengmeng kept bringing the conversation back to her, talking about her appearance, her works, and then from her works to her fans…
Throughout the entire meal, Yu Weiwan felt like she had become the main character.
Finally, the dinner ended, and everyone began to disperse. As soon as Yu Weiwan stepped out of the private room, someone patted her shoulder. “Weiwan.”
“Miss Li.”
“No need to be so formal. Just call me Mengmeng.”
“Okay.”
“After reading your Wolf Smoke, I started following your latest updates of The Last Pendulum. Believe it or not, I’ve been reading it in my spare time these past few days. Just ask Xiang Zeran.” Li Mengmeng pulled Xiang Zeran, who was walking by, over to them.
Having overheard their conversation, Xiang Zeran said with a smile, “I can testify. She’s already a fan of yours.”
Yu Weiwan smiled. “Thank you.”
“Hey, Weiwan, which room are you staying in? I’ll come find you when I’m free.”
“Well…actually, I don’t know yet. Luo Xi’s assistant helped me with my luggage. I came straight here to dinner after arriving.”
“Oh, it’s okay. We can add each other on WeChat.”
“Okay, sure.”
As Yu Weiwan and Li Mengmeng were exchanging WeChat contacts, Shen Qingzhou emerged from the private room. She hurriedly told Li Mengmeng, “Let’s connect later,” and then jogged towards Shen Qingzhou.
Before Li Mengmeng could finish her sentence, she saw Yu Weiwan run off and turned to look, a surprised expression in her eyes. Yu Weiwan walked past a group of staff members to Shen Qingzhou’s side and actually patted him on the shoulder. Shen Qingzhou turned to look at her, his expression unchanged, as if he were used to it.
The staff members behind them habitually kept a certain distance from Shen Qingzhou. With Yu Weiwan stepping forward like that, she and Shen Qingzhou ended up walking side by side, alone.
Li Mengmeng said in amazement, “I get nervous every time I see Director Shen. I wouldn’t dare pat him on the shoulder. Hey, do you think Weiwan and Director Shen know each other well?”
Xiang Zeran shook his head. “Probably not. See, it’s because they don’t know each other that she’s unaware of Director Shen’s temperament.”
“Oh, you’re right. Director Shen seems to dislike too much close contact. What’s that saying…fools rush in where angels fear to tread?”
Yu Weiwan caught up with Shen Qingzhou and followed him. “Mr. Shen, why didn’t you tell me you were the director before?”
Shen Qingzhou looked down at her. “It’s your work. You don’t even pay attention to it yourself, and you expect others to tell you?”
“I just forgot for a moment,” Yu Weiwan said sheepishly, changing the subject. “Hey, you mentioned discussing the script earlier. How about now?”
“Yes, we’re filming tomorrow, and some lines need to be revised.”
“Oh.”
The two went to Shen Qingzhou’s hotel room together, accompanied by two staff members. Looking at Shen Qingzhou’s ridiculously large presidential suite, Yu Weiwan couldn’t help but ask, “Is my room this nice?”
One of the staff members laughed. “Screenwriter, the number of people in our team who stay in rooms like this can be counted on one hand.”
Yu Weiwan’s face fell. She complained, “Director Shen, you should treat your staff better. How can you stay in such a nice place all by yourself?”
At this, the two staff members exchanged glances. They wouldn’t dare joke with Shen Qingzhou even if they had the guts. Who knew if the director would get angry?
To their relief, Shen Qingzhou didn’t react much; his expression was even rather mild…
“If you want to stay here, pay for it yourself.”
Yu Weiwan tsked and shook her head. “Evil capitalist.”
The staff members: "…"
The four of them then began to work seriously. When discussing the script, Yu Weiwan seemed like a different person—rigorous, focused, and not vague at all. This surprised the two staff members. It seemed that you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Shen Qingzhou couldn’t help but glance at Yu Weiwan a few more times. Besides her cooking skills, she did seem to have other uses.
An hour passed quickly. Shen Qingzhou stood up. “That’s all for today. You can go back.”
“Okay, then we’ll take our leave.” The staff members picked up their materials and left, and Yu Weiwan prepared to leave as well.
“Yu Weiwan.” Shen Qingzhou suddenly called out to her.
“Yes?”
“Do you see this?” Shen Qingzhou gestured for her to look behind her.
Yu Weiwan was puzzled. “What?”
“The kitchen.”
Yu Weiwan was stunned. “So…?”
Shen Qingzhou approached her and said matter-of-factly, “Your salary can be paid as usual. You continue cooking.”
Yu Weiwan was dumbfounded. “Director Shen, I’m here to work, and you’re always on set. Who will eat the food if I cook in the hotel?”
“You’re free most of the time, so you have plenty of time. Also, you can have my assistant bring dinner to the set. I’m not used to changing flavors, so I need you to continue cooking.” Shen Qingzhou’s expression remained calm as his tea-colored eyes looked at Yu Weiwan. He spoke quite seriously.
A giant question mark appeared in Yu Weiwan’s mind. Not used to changing flavors? Then how did he survive on set before? If he just liked her cooking, he could just say so!
“You make a good point, but…does my room have a kitchen? Is my room a presidential suite?”
Shen Qingzhou said, “You can come to my place to cook.”
Yu Weiwan’s expression suddenly became unreadable. “Director Shen, aren’t you afraid of being seen and misunderstood? What if people think it’s some kind of casting couch situation…?”
Shen Qingzhou gave her a strange look. “Even if I were to do that, it wouldn't be with the screenwriter.”
Yu Weiwan: "…"
“Here’s this. I’ll let you know when I need you to cook.” Shen Qingzhou handed her a room card. “You can go now.”
“Alright,” Yu Weiwan silently took the card. She admitted she was spineless; she couldn’t refuse Shen Qingzhou, nor did she want to. “Then I’ll go back now.”
“Mm.” Shen Qingzhou didn’t look at her again and walked towards his room.
Yu Weiwan left Shen Qingzhou’s room and called Luo Xi to ask for her room number. Finally arriving at her room, she collapsed onto the bed. After running around all day, having to work right after dinner was truly tiring.
Yu Weiwan looked around the room. Although it wasn’t as nice as Shen Qingzhou’s presidential suite, it was still quite good.
“Ding…”
Her phone rang. Yu Weiwan glanced at the caller ID and suddenly remembered something very important. She quickly answered, “Brother.”
“Yu Weiwan, I’ve been filming in the middle of nowhere with bad signal,” Yu Huan said. “So I only found out today that the director of Wolf Smoke is Shen Qingzhou. Did you know?”
“I know…” Yu Weiwan replied. “Brother, I also forgot to tell you, I’m in Beijing now.”
“What? What are you doing in Beijing? Why did you go without saying anything?”
Yu Weiwan coughed. Hadn’t she just remembered this matter when she saw Yu Huan’s call?
“Wolf Smoke is being filmed in Beijing. I’m the screenwriter, so of course I have to be here.”
“You’re really… Forget it. Behave yourself in the production team. That Shen Qingzhou might have a bad temper, so be careful.”
“No, I think he’s okay.” Yu Weiwan subconsciously retorted.
Yu Huan said, “You’ve just met him. What will you do when filming starts and you have conflicts over the script?”
“The script is mine; he has to listen to me.”
Yu Huan laughed. “You’re quite confident. By the way, the male lead is Zeran, right? I’ve worked with him before, and we’re quite familiar. Should I ask him to look after you? This is your first time doing this kind of work, you might not be able to handle it.”
“Hey, hey, hey, stop right there. I can handle it. I don’t need anyone to look after me. And don't tell anyone that I'm your sister.”
“Hey, you… Are you ashamed to be my sister?!” Yu Huan exploded.
“No, it’s not that.” Yu Weiwan said faintly. “It’s the loss of freedom. The younger sister of a big star? I’d be the center of attention wherever I go.”
Yu Huan choked. “I wouldn’t announce it to the world. I’d just quietly tell Zeran.”
“Forget it. What could possibly happen to me? I just need to quietly focus on my script.”
Yu Huan couldn’t do anything about it, so he said, “Fine, stubborn as a mule.”
Yu Weiwan giggled.
The siblings chatted for a while longer, mostly with Yu Huan advising Yu Weiwan on how to handle interpersonal relationships. He knew his sister, who stayed at home all day, didn't understand much about socializing, especially in a place like the entertainment industry.
After the call, Yu Weiwan took a comfortable bath, then opened her laptop to update a new chapter. Because of Wolf Smoke, the progress of her latest novel had indeed slowed down a bit. Now that the Wolf Smoke matter was settled, she could concentrate on writing.
After finishing writing, Yu Weiwan updated her Weibo.
She typed a line: Arrived in Beijing, met the director and actors, life on set is about to begin.
After deleting and revising, Yu Weiwan had a sudden inspiration and mischievously tagged Shen Qingzhou.
So, the final Weibo post looked like this: Arrived in Beijing, met the director today, and thought to myself, 'Wolf Smoke will rise.' @ShenQingzhou
After the Weibo post was published, a large group of netizens rushed to comment.
“The director is Shen Qingzhou~~ Quality guaranteed~~”
“Weiwan is in Beijing?!! Looking for a chance encounter! (But I don’t know what she looks like)”
“The cast list came out a few days ago with the start of filming. Not bad.”
“Please don’t ruin the original work!!!!”
“Director Shen is very strict. I can already imagine Weiwan being tortured.”
