Chapter 11: Chapter 11

Because she had spent quite a bit of time with Qin Ge, Wu Tong arrived at the hospital a little late. When she entered Xiao Yuan's ward, she found he wasn't there.

"Nurse, where's my younger brother?" Wu Tong asked a passing nurse.

"Oh…" The nurse thought for a moment. "Your brother is playing with other children in the garden."

"Thank you." Wu Tong took the elevator back down and entered the hospital's small garden through the side door.

From a dozen meters away, Wu Tong heard Xiao Yuan's cheerful laughter. Wearing his hospital gown, he was playing ball on the lawn with other children, chasing each other happily. Seeing her brother getting more energetic each day, Wu Tong felt both happy and melancholic.

My sister got married today, but I don't know how to tell you.

"Sister!" Xiao Yuan suddenly turned around and saw Wu Tong behind the flower bushes. He smiled, waved, returned the ball to his little friend, and then ran quickly towards Wu Tong.

"Don't run so fast." Wu Tong couldn't help but frown.

Xiao Yuan smiled and obediently slowed down. "The doctor said that because I'm young, I'll recover quickly. He said I might be discharged even earlier than expected."

"Then you have to be even more careful. Sister wants you to be discharged soon," Wu Tong said.

"I'll listen to Sister." Xiao Yuan took the tissue his sister handed him, wiped his sweat, and asked, "Sister, did something hold you up today? You're a bit late."

"Mm." Wu Tong paused, thinking about how to tell her brother about her marriage.

If this marriage is temporary, then I can completely hide it, as if it never happened. But I have no choice in this marriage, so if it's long-term, I can't keep it from Xiao Yuan forever.

If it's a love marriage, then why didn't my brother-in-law come to see him when he's sick? Xiao Yuan is so smart, he'll definitely notice something. And Qin Ge might not cooperate either.

What should I do?

"Sister? Sister?"

"Ah?" Wu Tong snapped back to reality.

"Sister, what are you thinking about so deeply? I called you several times." Xiao Yuan's eyes were full of worry. "Are you too tired lately?"

"It's nothing." Wu Tong looked around and pointed to a bench in the corner of the garden. "Xiao Yuan, let's sit over there."

Xiao Yuan felt that his sister was acting strange today, but he didn't know how to ask.

As they sat on the bench, Xiao Yuan turned his head and asked, "Sister, is there something you want to tell me?"

Wu Tong held Xiao Yuan's hand, smiled gently, and finally said, as if making up her mind, "Sister did something recently, and I don't know how to tell you."

"Sister, we're siblings. What can't you tell me?" Xiao Yuan frowned.

"I'm afraid you'll ask questions, but I don't know how to explain it to you," Wu Tong said with a smile.

Since their parents' death, the two siblings had depended on each other, their bond deeper than that of ordinary families. They cherished each other and shared both joys and sorrows, so Xiao Yuan couldn't imagine what his sister could want him to know but be afraid of him asking about.

However, everyone has little secrets they don't want to share, and Xiao Yuan felt that he was an adult now and could fully understand.

"Sister, just tell me. If you don't want me to ask, then I won't," Xiao Yuan said.

"I got married." As if waiting for these words from Xiao Yuan, Wu Tong blurted it out.

"What???" Xiao Yuan abruptly stood up, staring at his sister in disbelief. "Who? What do they do? Have I met them? How long have you been dating? No, wait, I don't remember you ever telling me you had a boyfriend."

"You said you wouldn't ask," Wu Tong said.

"Is this what you call asking?" Xiao Yuan felt his sister was being unreasonable. "Some jerk took my sister away, and I can't even ask about it?"

Wu Tong remained silent, her dark eyes fixed on Xiao Yuan. Xiao Yuan quickly gave in, but he still felt frustrated. He scratched his almost bald head and said, "Then can I at least meet him?"

"Yes…" Wu Tong paused, then added, "When you're on winter break."

"What? I want to meet him now." Xiao Yuan felt he absolutely couldn't compromise on this point.

"No," Wu Tong refused.

"Why?" Xiao Yuan was about to lose it. My sister got married, and I can't even know who she married?

"Our relationship isn't stable yet," Wu Tong said.

"Not… stable?" Xiao Yuan, after conjuring up ten thousand scenarios, said with a slightly unnatural expression, "Sister, you didn't… you know… with some stranger… and then… get married because you're pregnant, did you?"

"Don't make wild assumptions," Wu Tong said exasperatedly.

"Sister, this is unfair. You suddenly tell me you're married, and then you won't let me meet him, and you won't give me a reason. How can I be at ease?" Xiao Yuan complained.

"Just remember…" Wu Tong also stood up, looking at her brother with a gentle but firm expression. "Sister will be fine. You want Sister to be happy, right?"

"Sister, of course I want you to be happy… but…"

"Then give us time. When you're on winter break, I'll introduce him to you."

Xiao Yuan had never been able to defy Wu Tong since he was young, and after their parents passed away, he had been wanting to grow up quickly to protect his sister. He had never disobeyed Wu Tong's requests, so he once again succumbed to her firm attitude.

"Then… you must be happy, don't lie to me." All of Xiao Yuan's doubts and worries could only be expressed in this one sentence.

"Thank you, Xiao Yuan," Wu Tong said with a smile.

Xiao Yuan couldn't help but bend down and hug his sister, his voice muffled. "Sister, I've always wanted to grow up and protect you. How could you get married so soon?"

Wu Tong smiled and patted her brother's bald head. "Sister doesn't need your protection. Sister just wants you to be healthy."

When Wu Tong returned home from the hospital, she felt much more relaxed. While persuading Xiao Yuan at the hospital, she had come to understand many things herself.

A few months ago, when Xiao Yuan was sick and Wu Tong was desperate, she had prayed to various gods more than once, saying that as long as Xiao Yuan's illness could be cured, she would do anything. So, although she was not used to being married to Qin Ge, she wasn't unwilling.

From a certain perspective, it was Qin Ge who had saved Xiao Yuan's life.

Wu Tong took out the marriage certificate she had just received from her bag and looked at the sharp-eyed man in the photo. She softly said, "Let's work hard together."

At that moment, at Huanshan Emerald, Qin Ge, having finished dinner, leaned against the small balcony of his room, a cigarette dangling from his lips, lazily blowing smoke rings into the sky.

Ding!

The WeChat notification sound broke the silence of the night. Qin Ge, still with the cigarette in his mouth, entered the room, casually picked up his phone and glanced at it, a slight smile appearing at the corner of his eyes.

(Are you free tomorrow afternoon? Let's go look at furniture.)

Qin Ge took the cigarette out of his mouth with his hand, picked up his phone, and casually dialed a number. Then he leaned back against where he had been, lazily waiting.

"Hello," Wu Tong's voice came through the receiver, her slightly rising intonation tickling Qin Ge's heart.

"Missing me already?" Qin Ge's face was hidden in the shadows, making his expression unreadable.

"Because there's nothing in the house. There are a lot of things to buy, and it will take a long time, so I thought if we have time, we should try to go as many times as possible," Wu Tong said.

"House?" Qin Ge chuckled softly.

"What?" Wu Tong didn't understand what he was laughing at.

"I'll pick you up tomorrow at 1 p.m.," Qin Ge said.

"Okay, I'll wait for you." Wu Tong calculated the time. She could visit the hospital in the morning, and the timing would be just right.

"Where are you now? At home?" Qin Ge suddenly asked.

"Mm." Wu Tong's voice was soft and low, making Qin Ge's muscles tense.

"Lying in bed?"

Wu Tong had indeed been lying in bed reading just now, so she answered with another "mm" without thinking.

"Wife…" Qin Ge's voice sounded a little hoarse.

"What?" Wu Tong had become somewhat immune to Qin Ge calling her "wife."

"I'm imagining you lying in bed… you must be very beautiful… delicious."

Wu Tong hung up the phone with a dark expression. How can this person be so vulgar?

Qin Ge wasn't surprised by the dial tone. He just leaned on the railing, his laughter growing more unrestrained. For the first time, he began to look forward to the next day.

The next morning, the Qin family was surprised to see Qin Ge not only at home but also having breakfast with them.

Mother Qin asked curiously, "Qin Ge, don't you have to go out today?"

"I will, going out this afternoon." The Qin family was used to Western-style breakfasts, but Qin Ge preferred Chinese style. So while everyone else ate elegantly with knives and forks, Qin Ge grabbed a baozi with his hand and ate somewhat roughly.

The Qin family had gone from initial discomfort to now being accustomed to this, after constant counseling from psychologists. It wasn't that Qin Ge didn't understand table manners or couldn't eat more elegantly; it was as if he was using this posture to remember something.

"Where are you going this afternoon?" Mother Qin, sensing her son's good mood, followed up with a question.

"I made plans with Wu Tong to buy furniture." After saying this, ignoring his family's surprised expressions, he turned to look at Fei Fei, who had almost finished eating, and asked, "Finished? If you're done, Dad will take you to the yard to play soccer."

Fei Fei obediently jumped off his chair, the answer self-evident.

Qin Ge picked up Fei Fei, hoisted him onto his shoulders, and strode out the door.

After her son left the dining room, Mother Qin immediately asked the other two men incredulously, "Did Qin Ge just say he's going to buy furniture with Wu Tong?"

"Yes," Father Qin nodded.

"Doesn't Qin Ge seem to be in a good mood?"

Actually, Qin Ge was always smiling, but whether he was truly happy or just pretending, the Qin family sometimes couldn't tell. So Father Qin didn't know how to answer for a moment.

"Big Brother is in a good mood today," Qin Huai chimed in. "Big Brother likes to carry Fei Fei on his shoulders when he's happy."

"I told you getting married was the right thing to do." Mother Qin looked as if she was impressed by her own wisdom. "No, I have to pick a good day soon to arrange for the two families to meet and give my daughter-in-law some proper instructions."

"Didn't we already say, don't interfere?" Father Qin couldn't help but say.

"How am I interfering? My son got married, and we didn't even have a wedding. Now that they're married, my daughter-in-law hasn't even called me 'Mom' yet." Mother Qin retorted.

Father Qin couldn't refute this reason and could only lower his head and continue drinking his coffee.

At 12:50 p.m., Wu Tong was waiting downstairs in front of her building. Because she had slept late last night, her complexion wasn't very good, so she had applied a thick layer of foundation.

Already fair-skinned, to tone down the heavy makeup, Wu Tong even chose a brighter shade of lipstick. Her long, straight legs were faintly visible beneath her floral dress, a sight so beautiful that every passerby couldn't help but turn their heads for a second look.

This was the scene Qin Ge saw when he arrived in his jeep.

Wu Tong, seeing the familiar jeep, walked down the steps and went to the window. She saw Qin Ge staring at her without blinking, his gaze a little intimidating.

"Wh… what's wrong?" Wu Tong asked.

"Get in the car." Qin Ge glanced at Wu Tong's attire. Although nothing was exposed, it was damned alluring.

This person was perfectly fine on the phone, why does he act like this as soon as we meet? Wu Tong pursed her lips, opened the car door herself, and sat in the passenger seat.

As Qin Ge rolled up the window, Wu Tong fastened her seatbelt. Turning her head, she realized Qin Ge was leaning very close to her. His seatbelt, which had been fastened, was now undone.

Wu Tong's nerves tightened, and she was about to move back when she realized she was completely trapped in the passenger seat.

Qin Ge put one arm around Wu Tong's soft waist and braced himself against the car seat with the other, pressing her against the seat and kissing her fiercely. Wu Tong felt like a piece of meat in Qin Ge's mouth, gnawed on and then licked clean.

Qin Ge pulled back slightly. Seeing that Wu Tong's previously pink and pretty lips were now free of the distracting lipstick, he was instantly satisfied.

"What are you doing?" Wu Tong's cheeks were flushed from holding her breath. Her wide, watery eyes, when glaring, held no intimidation and instead appeared soft and cute.

"Nothing." Qin Ge sat up straight, refastened his seatbelt, started the car, and drove out of the complex.

Wu Tong sulked for a while, but there was nothing she could do about Qin Ge. Looking in the rearview mirror, she saw that her lipstick was smudged, so she took out her compact and lipstick from her bag, intending to touch up her makeup.

"Your lipstick tastes good," Qin Ge suddenly said.

Wu Tong blinked, glancing at Qin Ge with some confusion. Connecting this with his sudden kiss, understanding dawned on her, and she couldn't help but roll her eyes. "If you like it so much, I'll give you the whole tube. Eat your fill."

"I only want to eat what's on your lips," Qin Ge said, glancing at her with a playful smile.

Wu Tong, who had already applied lipstick to her lips, was now stuck. Because of Qin Ge's words, she couldn't apply it, and she couldn't not apply it. Her face, without the lipstick, was a bit too pale, and Wu Tong, with her slight OCD, couldn't accept it.

Finally, Wu Tong shoved the lipstick back into her bag, pulled out a pack of wet wipes, and began to remove her BB cream.

By the time Qin Ge drove to the largest furniture store in the capital, Wu Tong's face was bare. The faint dark circles under her eyes made her look tired and even more delicate.

"We're here." Wu Tong unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car first.

Qin Ge turned off the engine and followed her out. As he walked around the car to Wu Tong's side, he reached out and gently put his arm around her waist, pulling her closer.

"What are you doing?" Wu Tong asked, bewildered by his sudden actions.

"What's wrong with me putting my arm around my wife's waist?" Qin Ge asked.

"How can we walk like this?"

Qin Ge didn't answer but tilted his chin towards a spot not far away. Wu Tong turned her head and saw a flamboyantly dressed woman clinging to her male companion like a snake.

"They've practiced. I don't have that skill," Wu Tong retorted.

"Useless," Qin Ge said with a hint of disdain.

"…" Wu Tong, speechless, pushed him away angrily and walked forward.

Qin Ge raised an eyebrow and smiled. He caught up to Wu Tong in a few strides and grabbed her soft hand. Wu Tong struggled but couldn't break free. Finally, she gave up and let him hold her hand as they walked forward, one in front of the other.

At first glance, this scene looked like a petulant wife forcing her unwilling husband to go shopping.

"What do you want to look at first?" The store was so big, Wu Tong didn't know where to start.

"The bed!" Qin Ge said matter-of-factly. "I only care about the bed. Everything else is whatever."

Why does even buying a bed sound like flirting? Wu Tong felt that she must have been spending too much time with Qin Ge and had caught his crazy.
