Pampering My Husband Every Day
Chapters ListChapter 7: Chapter 7
On the last day of each work week, the Qin family habitually had dinner together and chatted about the week's events. However, most of the time, Mother Qin would share gossip she'd heard, like meeting so-and-so's wife at a charity banquet and praising their daughter's intelligence, capability, beauty, and elegance.
During these monologues, the three Qin men—father and sons—would silently eat their meals, showing little interest. Mother Qin, feeling the lack of engagement, picked up some vegetables with her chopsticks and placed them in her grandson Feifei's bowl.
"Mom, boys should eat more meat," Qin Ge said.
"What do you know? Children need a balanced diet. After you get married and move out, you can't just feed Feifei meat," Mother Qin instructed.
Hearing this, Father Qin remembered to ask Qin Huai, "How's the Wu Corporation collaboration going?"
"It's signed. I'll have the finance department transfer the first payment tomorrow," Qin Huai replied, then glanced at Mother Qin. "Mom, you can start preparing for the wedding."
"Really? Then I have to discuss it with Mrs. Wu. I don't know what kind of wedding Wu Tong would like," Mother Qin said, thrilled that her eldest son's wedding was finally set. She could hardly wait to call Second Aunt Wu.
"Why don't you ask me what kind of wedding I would like?" Qin Ge asked with amusement, glancing at his excited mother.
"You have an opinion? Tell me," Mother Qin asked, delighted that her son actually had requirements for the wedding.
"Why make it so complicated? Just get the marriage certificate," Qin Ge said.
"No way!" Mother Qin immediately disagreed. "Marriage is such a big deal; how can it just end with getting a certificate?"
"You want a lavish, extravagant wedding, inviting a bunch of business elites I don't know, making me perform on stage like a monkey. Just thinking about it is annoying," Qin Ge said, his face darkening. He genuinely seemed to dislike the idea.
Mother Qin, mindful of Dr. Li's advice, didn't dare insist further when she saw her eldest son's expression change. She looked pleadingly at her husband and second son.
"If they don't want a big wedding, then they don't need one. The important thing is that they like it," Father Qin said, understanding his wife's unspoken plea.
"Right, right, and Wu Tong too," Mother Qin said, as if finding new hope. "Most girls want a grand wedding. Oh, and honeymoons are popular now."
"Yes, Elder Brother, discuss it with Miss Wu and decide," Qin Huai advised.
Qin Ge's thoughts, however, weren't on the wedding but on the honeymoon his mother mentioned. He seemed to recall discussing this topic a long time ago, while stationed with his comrades in some remote mountain forest.
What did they talk about back then? About the future, about weddings, about their significant others… It seemed everyone had beautiful wishes, but now only he had reached this stage.
"Qin Ge?" Mother Qin called out cautiously, seeing her eldest son lost in thought again, a hint of sadness on his face.
Qin Ge snapped back to reality. Seeing his mother's anxious face and his father and brother's worried expressions, he felt a wave of helplessness. It's like this again. Whenever I show a slight emotional fluctuation, my family treats me like I'm walking on thin ice, as if I'm fragile and will break at any moment.
But the more they act like this, the more uncomfortable I feel, and the more worried they become. It's a vicious cycle.
"I'll talk to Wu Tong about it tomorrow," Qin Ge said.
"Huh?" Mother Qin seemed in disbelief.
"Is there a problem?" Qin Ge asked.
"No, no, go talk to her, discuss it thoroughly. Mom will listen to you," Mother Qin said, so happy she could barely articulate her words.
Qin Ge shook his head helplessly and lowered his head to continue eating, pretending not to see the excited exchange of glances between the other three at the table.
When Wu Tong left the hospital, she received a message from Qin Ge: (Let's meet tomorrow at 10 a.m. You choose the location.)
Wu Tong casually looked around and saw a shopping mall nearby. She replied: (Rainbow Plaza, third-floor cafe.)
After receiving confirmation, Wu Tong put her phone back in her bag and walked towards the nearby subway station.
The next day.
Since she was meeting her fiancé, Wu Tong made an effort with her appearance. Simple makeup and a half-updo made her look younger.
At 9:50 a.m., Wu Tong arrived at the main entrance of Rainbow Plaza. Just as she was about to enter, she heard a shrill female voice shouting about a bag snatcher.
Wu Tong instinctively turned and looked towards the source of the commotion. She saw a man on a motorcycle speeding towards her, clutching a woman's shoulder bag. Even though Wu Tong was already standing behind the greenery, she still instinctively took a step back.
Just as the thief was about to escape in broad daylight, a dark figure leaped over the greenbelt beside the road, landed about two meters in front of the motorcycle, and kicked out.
With a loud bang, the thief and motorcycle tumbled to the ground. The man walked over, stepped on the groaning thief, squatted down, lifted the thief's helmet, and said with disdain, "I've been enjoying encounters with people like you lately. Beating people is more exciting than hitting a punching bag."
Soon, the woman whose bag was snatched caught up, retrieved her bag, and repeatedly thanked the man. Seeing that the plaza security guards had arrived and apprehended the thief, the man ignored the surrounding applause and turned to enter the mall. He then spotted Wu Tong in the crowd.
Wu Tong blinked and smiled at Qin Ge.
Since the mall had just opened, the cafe wasn't crowded. They chose a secluded spot and sat down. After the waiter brought their coffee and water, an awkward silence fell between them.
"Did that scare you just now?" Qin Ge asked.
"Huh?" Wu Tong took a sip of coffee before replying. "Not scared, just surprised you're so skilled."
"Didn't Dr. Li tell you I was a special forces soldier?" Qin Ge asked, puzzled.
"He did, but hearing about it and seeing it firsthand are two different things," Wu Tong replied. Noticing Qin Ge had ordered water, she decided to steer the conversation towards lighter topics. "You don't like coffee?"
Qin Ge glanced at the water and explained with a smile, "It's not that I don't like it, it's that I can't drink it. Caffeine is stimulating, and I'm already prone to irritability."
…Why does this man constantly remind me of his condition? Wu Tong thought.
"But don't worry, after that little outburst just now, I'm in a good mood and won't suddenly lose my temper," Qin Ge said, taking a sip of water cheerfully.
"…" Wu Tong looked up, feeling slightly uncomfortable. "Are you… trying to scare me?"
"Are you scared?" Qin Ge didn't deny it, his smile almost teasing.
"Young Master Qin, my second uncle has already signed the contract with Qin Corp. Our marriage is inevitable. I don't understand why you're doing this," Wu Tong said, puzzled. "Why are you scaring me? Do you want me to break off the engagement?"
"Of course not," Qin Ge shook his head. "On the contrary, I'm telling you this precisely because we're getting married. The opportunity to break it off was given to you when you met Dr. Li. Since you're still willing to marry me after learning about my condition, you must accept all of me."
"I understand," Wu Tong replied after a moment of eye contact.
Qin Ge seemed satisfied with her answer. He relaxed, swirling his water glass, a faint smile playing on his lips.
"Then… can I ask you a question?" Wu Tong suddenly asked.
"Go ahead."
"Do you… hit people when you're irritable?" Wu Tong asked cautiously.
"Are you worried about domestic violence?" Qin Ge asked with a playful smile. "If I said yes… would you break off the engagement?"
"No," Wu Tong replied, shaking her head, her face slightly pale.
"Indeed, the power of money is beyond imagination," Qin Ge laughed heartily.
Wu Tong didn't want to explain herself. This was her choice, and no matter what, she had to try to move forward.
"Have you ever been in love before?" Qin Ge's sudden question startled Wu Tong out of her thoughts. She looked up, bewildered, then frowned. "Isn't it a bit late to be asking this now?"
"Don't misunderstand. I'm not interested in your romantic history. It's just that you probably won't experience the beauty of love in the future, so I hope you've had it before," Qin Ge explained. "However… I'm a rather possessive person, and I have a bit of a hang-up about emotional purity. By the way… did Dr. Li tell you how my possessiveness manifests?"
"No…" Remembering what Dr. Li had told her that day, Wu Tong didn't want to admit she knew.
"It's okay, I can tell you again," Qin Ge said with a suggestive smile. "My possessiveness manifests itself more… sexually."
Wu Tong's face flushed crimson. "Don't worry, this is a marriage of convenience. I won't mind if you have someone else…"
"Let me finish," Qin Ge interrupted, a hint of displeasure in his voice. "I was a soldier. Soldiers are loyal to their country and their families. I won't touch any other woman besides my wife."
"I… I understand," Wu Tong said, feeling uncomfortable.
"What do you understand?" Qin Ge pressed, observing as his future wife's expression shifted from composure to a blush. He couldn't resist teasing her. "Are you imagining something inappropriate? Why is your face so red?"
"I'm not…" Wu Tong glared at Qin Ge, embarrassed.
"Fine… you're not… then I am, alright?" Qin Ge said, spreading his hands in mock surrender as Wu Tong glared at him again. "Men are creatures who think with their lower halves, especially when they have a condition like mine."
"Regarding that…" Wu Tong hesitated, then spoke the words she'd carefully considered. "Since we don't have any feelings for each other, I hope… you can give me some time after we're married."
"Time? To cultivate feelings?" Qin Ge asked.
Wu Tong nodded.
"Then kiss me now," Qin Ge said, pointing to the corner of his lips with a roguish smile. "Aren't we supposed to be cultivating feelings? We're engaged, so let's start with a kiss."
How did things suddenly turn out like this? Wu Tong thought, feeling like something was amiss, but unable to refute him.
"It seems… you don't actually need to cultivate feelings with me," Qin Ge said, raising an eyebrow as Wu Tong remained motionless. He stood up as if to leave. "After all, when it comes to men and women, sleeping together a few times usually does the trick."
Seeing Qin Ge about to leave, Wu Tong blurted out, "Wait!"
Qin Ge, who was actually just about to go to the restroom, stopped inexplicably.
Wu Tong, as if having made a significant decision, left her seat and walked towards Qin Ge. Under his puzzled gaze, she stood on tiptoe and kissed him.
When the soft, warm touch reached his lips, the playful look in Qin Ge's eyes instantly ignited into a flame. He cupped the back of Wu Tong's head, preventing her from pulling away, and deepened the kiss.
Wu Tong whimpered and tried to struggle free, but she was no match for Qin Ge's strong arms.
As Qin Ge's tongue traced her lip, a familiar salty taste reached his tongue – the taste of blood. His eyes darkened, the restlessness he had just suppressed threatening to resurface.
Wu Tong covered her bleeding lip, taking two steps back, her eyes wide and misty as she glared at the man before her.
"Heh…" Qin Ge chuckled, seeing his future wife looking thoroughly kissed. "You could have bitten me back when I bit you."
"You…" Wu Tong wanted to call him shameless, but it didn't seem appropriate to use that word to describe her husband kissing her.
"Got a little carried away. Almost forgot the main reason we're here," Qin Ge said. "What kind of wedding do you want?"
"I don't mind," Wu Tong replied. She had no expectations for this transactional marriage.
"Then… let's skip the wedding. We'll get the certificate and go on our honeymoon," Qin Ge suggested.
"Okay." In truth, Wu Tong didn't even want to go on a honeymoon.
"My mom said every woman wants a grand wedding. It seems my wife is truly unique," Qin Ge said, his mood brightening at their agreement.
"Anything else? If not, I'll be going," Wu Tong said, picking up her bag.
"One last thing. When do you think is a good time to get the certificate?" Qin Ge asked.
Wu Tong thought for a moment. Today was Saturday, and Xiao Yuan's surgery was tomorrow afternoon, so the timing of getting the certificate didn't really matter.
"We can get the certificate anytime. But if we're going on a honeymoon, I'll need about a month to free up some time. Actually, we don't have to go on a honeymoon…"
"How can we not have a honeymoon? I'm really looking forward to it," Qin Ge whispered, leaning closer to Wu Tong. "I'll go back and pick a good day for us to get the certificate. I really hope we can get married soon, so I can… sleep with you sooner."
"Goodbye!" Wu Tong said, fearing she might actually hit him if she stayed any longer.
Qin Ge watched Wu Tong's retreating figure, a wide grin spreading across his face, almost making him lose his balance.
