The Bowl of Seven Emotions
Chapters ListChapter 97: Business Trip
This time, no one spoke up for Lü Yao.
Lü Yao walked out of the Secretary's Office, her mind still in a daze. She couldn't understand how things had turned out this way.
What had she done wrong? Why was she being transferred?
Although she always felt that the Secretary's Office was a dead-end job, leaving of her own volition and being forced out were two entirely different matters. Especially since, before dismissing her, Secretary Wu had humiliated her publicly!
In Lü Yao's mind, deliberately pointing out that she hadn't joined Di Jiang through normal channels was an insult. Yet, she hadn't considered how she herself had chimed in when others in the Secretary's Office had gossiped about Tang Susu.
The two male employees who helped her move her belongings pitied her, but they weren't foolish. After escorting her to Human Resources, they quickly excused themselves.
The new HR Manager, Manager Lu, was previously Manager You's deputy. He'd assumed he'd have to wait at least two or three years for a promotion, never expecting Manager You to be transferred so abruptly.
Seeing Lü Yao, Manager Lu raised an eyebrow. Before leaving the headquarters, Manager You had specifically asked him to look after the young woman. For the sake of their years working together, he had transferred her to the Secretary's Office. As for the young woman's previous interest in the Finance Department, that was simply wishful thinking!
"What's going on?" Manager Lu asked, feigning ignorance as he glanced at the cardboard box by her feet.
Lü Yao, embarrassed, closed the office door, blocking the curious stares of the onlookers outside. Lowering her head, she mumbled, "Secretary Wu asked you to transfer me to another department."
"Transfer? Why?"
"How would I know?!" Lü Yao snapped, her frustration bubbling over.
Manager Lu's face darkened. Impatiently, he said, "Alright, I understand. Wait outside for now." He then dismissed her.
Lü Yao had never experienced such coldness. Unsure what to do, she could only fume as she yanked the door open and stepped out.
She stood awkwardly outside Manager Lu's office, feeling the burning stares of the passersby. It wasn't until almost closing time that Manager Lu finally gave her an answer.
She was assigned to the Logistics Department. It was said that Logistics had plenty of perks, but that depended on one's position. In front of Manager Lu, Lü Yao clearly had no such leverage.
Lü Yao's transfer didn't attract much attention. Her belief that the entire company was laughing at her was merely her own misconception.
In such a large corporation, competition was fierce. Everyone was busy with their own affairs; no one had the time or inclination to care about others. Even those who had previously pursued her had gone silent.
The rumors about the Chairman and Tang Susu's supposed affair gradually faded. Most people didn't even know what Tang Susu looked like; they had merely been echoing what they'd heard. Now that no one was talking about it, they quickly forgot the gossip.
Besides Lü Yao, an employee from the Advertising Department was also dismissed. Apart from within the Advertising Department itself, no one noticed.
Ever since Tang Susu and Shi Chengxuan's relationship was revealed by Bai Mian, Tang Susu's weekends had become increasingly busy.
Bai Mian, who previously would have happily spent her weekends in bed, had become unusually active. The two women were either shopping or on their way to shop.
Unable to get ahold of Tang Susu for several weekends in a row, Shi Chengxuan seethed silently.
He firmly believed that the concept of "best friends" was a cult and should be abolished!
Almost every time they went shopping, Tang Susu would receive a call from Shi Chengxuan. These moments brought Bai Mian immense satisfaction. However, her plan soon backfired.
As the old saying goes: "The moon is the first to shine on the waterside pavilion." This wasn't just an empty proverb.
As Tang Susu's boss, Shi Chengxuan had an advantage no one else possessed, an advantage he hadn't even realized until Bai Mian's provocation.
On Friday afternoon, when Tang Susu received another call from Bai Mian inviting her to swim over the weekend, she apologetically declined. "I have a business trip this weekend. I'll be back in about a week."
"What?" Bai Mian was stunned. "You're an assistant. Why are you going on a business trip?"
"Yes, the CEO's assistant. The CEO's orders; who dares disobey?" Tang Susu was also helpless. Shi Chengxuan was taking her along on a business trip, even though a group of managers would be present. What would they think?
Unfortunately, the "tyrant" only listened to whispers of sweet nothings and refused to be swayed.
"Haha," Bai Mian sneered, slamming her pen on the desk. "Come to my place tonight. I'll have Nie Ruo teach you some self-defense techniques!"
Tang Susu: "……………" If she could, Tang Susu suspected Bai Mian would rather equip her with a gun.
Although Butler Nie was highly capable, he couldn't transform Tang Susu into a martial arts expert overnight. Bai Mian paced anxiously around the living room. Butler Nie, after a night of instruction, was now preparing spaghetti for them.
The aroma from the kitchen wafted out. Tang Susu, hugging a pillow, sat cross-legged on the sofa, watching Bai Mian's long strides as she paced.
"Don't worry so much. If I don't agree, he won't do anything," Tang Susu said, amused.
Bai Mian remained convinced that Shi Chengxuan was a man of maximum danger, and that Tang Susu would be devoured completely if she stayed with him.
Hearing this, Bai Mian rolled her eyes. "Let me ask you, what are the sleeping arrangements for the business trip?"
"Single rooms or double rooms… Is there something wrong?" Tang Susu asked, bewildered by Bai Mian's scornful expression.
"Haven't you considered the possibility that you might be sharing a room with Shi Chengxuan?"
"No way. With everyone else there, how could he do that?"
"Why not? Doesn't anyone know about your relationship?"
"Secretary Wu knows, and the others…" Tang Susu thought for a moment. "The people in the Secretary's Office might have guessed." Their changed attitude towards her was a clue. Those people were pragmatic; they hadn't been so polite to her before.
"As long as someone knows, it's not a secret. So, those going on this business trip with you probably all know."
Tang Susu's lips twitched. "What does it matter if they know?"
"If they all know, do you think Shi Chengxuan will still care about what others think and let you stay in a separate room? Foolish! If it were me, I'd choose a hot spring hotel. Maybe you could even soak in the hot springs together, and then it would be even more natural for something to happen."
Tang Susu was speechless. Should she be thankful that Shi Chengxuan and Bai Mian's imaginations weren't wired the same way?
Bai Mian poked Tang Susu's forehead in exasperation. Just then, Butler Nie emerged, carrying two plates of spaghetti and two glasses of grape juice.
Tang Susu took the opportunity to admire the man in an apron. Hmm, she had to admit, Butler Nie could easily stand at the peak of life based on his looks alone, yet he was also so capable. She was becoming increasingly curious about his annual salary.
