Chapter 82: Loverboy

Having watched for so many days without any progress, Lin Sheng was running out of patience. Instead of just watching, it would be better to take the initiative. She was just an ordinary person; after questioning her and using a few tricks, she wouldn't remember a thing.

Thinking this, Lin Sheng walked directly to Tang Susu's table.

"Miss, would you mind if I sit here?" Lin Sheng was fairly good-looking, with regular features and tall stature. Although this action seemed abrupt, no one paid much attention, thinking it was just a normal pick-up attempt.

Tang Susu looked up, feeling something flash before her eyes. Her mind instantly went blank.

Without receiving a positive answer, Lin Sheng sat down anyway. He clasped his hands on the table, his car keys dangling from his fingers. The keychain was a thumb-sized handmade doll. The doll's face was made of white cloth, and its features were three small black dots drawn with a black marker, representing the eyes and mouth.

At first glance, the doll looked a bit creepy, but no one at the table noticed this.

"What's your name?" Lin Sheng asked Tang Susu, but he was looking at the doll in his hand.

"Tang Susu."

"What's your relationship with Shi Chengxuan?"

"Assistant and boss."

"Tsk." Lin Sheng curled his lip. Assistant and boss, as if everyone didn't know the hidden implications. Then he asked, "Why did Shi Chengxuan buy you a bronze mirror?"

Tang Susu didn't answer. Lin Sheng… heard another person's answer in his ear, "Because she likes it, because I'm willing to."

Before he could react, he was kicked out.

Falling heavily to the ground, Lin Sheng felt a surge of anger and tried to get up, but someone dislocated his arm from behind. A click sounded, the sound of handcuffs, and his hands were cuffed together.

"What are you doing? This is illegal detention!" The sudden situation panicked Lin Sheng. He then realized that the people in the cafe had all disappeared. The person who had just handcuffed him was the owner of the shop.

And at this moment, standing before him against the light, was Shi Chengxuan, the person his captain had repeatedly warned him not to investigate.

Not long after arriving in Feng Lin City, his two companions had investigated Shi Chengxuan. At that time, he had only seen this person's photo, not the person himself.

He only knew that this person had some tricks up his sleeve and, because of good fortune, was born into a wealthy family, holding wealth that ordinary people would find difficult to obtain in a lifetime.

He didn't think there was anything remarkable about Shi Chengxuan, even though the captain repeatedly emphasized not to investigate this person. He didn't take it to heart.

No matter how powerful, he was just an ordinary person, nothing to them.

It wasn't until he saw the man in person that he realized that the ordinary person he thought was nothing was just his own wishful thinking.

When Shi Chengxuan stood in front of him, looking down at him, Lin Sheng couldn't help but feel a chill in his heart.

He couldn't bring himself to fight back. It was a kind of pressure from a different level; he felt fear and dared not resist.

He seemed to understand why the captain had repeatedly warned him. This person's background must be problematic, most likely one of those kinds of people that were taboo in their line of work.

Before every newcomer started, they would receive warnings from their elders. Some people with special fates must never be provoked, otherwise, there would be endless trouble.

Unfortunately, he learned this too late.

Lin Sheng panicked and couldn't help but look up at Tang Susu. He saw Tang Susu turn around and…smile at him. She also picked up his keychain that had fallen on the ground and slowly unraveled the string-wrapped doll.

She was pretending!

She wasn't affected by the spell!

At this point, Lin Sheng couldn't think about why she wasn't affected. He only felt the person behind him stick something into his body. His vision went black, and he knew nothing more.

Witnessing this scene, which she had only seen on TV, Tang Susu was honestly a little scared. After all, she was just an ordinary person.

So, in such a situation, should she scream? Or throw herself into someone's arms and cry?

She wavered between the two choices and accidentally missed the best time to react.

"What are you thinking?" Seeing her staring at the man lying on the ground, Shi Chengxuan flicked her forehead and sat down in Lin Sheng's previous seat.

"This person… what does he do?"

Actually, since learning she was being watched, Tang Susu had been nervous for a while. But soon she realized she was overthinking it. The other party wasn't watching her because they suspected her identity, but because they wanted to investigate Shi Chengxuan through her.

After Gou Dan told her, she thought she had misheard.

If they wanted to investigate Shi Chengxuan, they should go to him directly. What did it have to do with her?

She fumed for a while and decided to talk to Shi Chengxuan about being followed.

And so, today's events unfolded.

Watching the guy being dragged by his legs like a dead pig behind the counter, Tang Susu glanced at the shyly smiling shopkeeper and shivered, realizing that appearances can be deceiving.

"I don't know. I'll ask him later." Seeing her surprised expression, Shi Chengxuan couldn't help but laugh. "Scared?"

"In this situation, shouldn't we call the police?"

Shi Chengxuan didn't answer, staring at her for a long while. Until Tang Susu couldn't stand his gaze and turned her head away, he curled his lips and said, "Isn't your loverboy more reliable than the police?"

…What the heck!

Tang Susu mentally flipped a hundred tables.

Wasn't it supposed to be ambiguous forever? What's the meaning of you confessing alone? I didn't agree to this!

Tang Susu, who always thought she was brave, suddenly chickened out and did something that made her feel embarrassed every time she thought about it. Under Shi Chengxuan's surprised gaze, she stood up and ran.

Shi Chengxuan: "…"

"Yo, confession failed." The cafe owner leaned against the counter, grinning as he twisted the knife in Shi Chengxuan's heart.

"Shut up."

Ignoring the other party's gloating, he paused for a moment, amused and helpless. She was usually quite bold, so why did she run away?

He was even a little worried that he would receive a resignation letter tomorrow when he went to work.

"Your taste changes quickly. Do you like the shy type now?" The cafe owner asked with arms crossed and a grin.

"Cut the crap. Tell Bai Nian to come and get him." Shi Chengxuan didn't answer the question, his face grim.

"Sigh, Xiao Nian is really unlucky. He only has a few people under him, and they all fell into your hands." The cafe owner said with a grin, then lifted the curtain and went inside.
