Chapter 81: Surveillance

The bodyguards weren't fools. With the boss in his current state, Xue family's future undoubtedly belonged to Xue Yang. The young master wasn't known for being merciful. If they didn't explain themselves clearly today, their careers in this industry would be over.

Xue Yang waved his hand dismissively. "I'll let you off the hook for now. Go to that woman surnamed Leng. I need to know what my father discussed with her."

The head bodyguard nodded repeatedly at Xue Yang's command. "Don't worry, Young Master. I'll definitely get the information."

True to his years of service under Xue Jun, it didn't take long for his call to come through. The woman surnamed Leng, a coward at heart, spilled everything under pressure. Just as they had suspected, Tang Qiming and Xue Jun had discussed a business deal, with Tang Susu as the intermediary.

Xue Jun hadn't revealed much, but under duress, the woman recounted his exact words.

Although he had anticipated this outcome, Xue Yang still felt a sense of disbelief.

He had known from the beginning that Tang Qiming didn't favor Tang Susu. After all, even in arranged marriages, it was rare to see a young woman in her twenties married off to a lecherous old man. However, he hadn't expected Tang Qiming to be so ruthless. Last time, at least, there was a semblance of a proper marriage. This time, he had simply sent his daughter off to be someone's plaything without any status or recognition. This wasn't a father; even an enemy wouldn't stoop to such a despicable act.

It wasn't as if they were struggling to survive. Why sell his daughter? And even if he had to, why sell her to someone like his father, a man Xue Yang himself found repulsive?

There was one more thing Xue Yang couldn't understand. Although the matter between Tang Susu and Shi Chengxuan wasn't public knowledge, rumors had circulated. Moreover, Shi Chengxuan had been quite open about his intentions this time. Even if there was nothing concrete, people were still speculating. Given this situation, how could Tang Qiming abandon Shi Chengxuan and approach Xue Jun instead?

Was he out of his mind, or did he simply want to make Tang Susu's life miserable?

Xue Yang had once thought having Xue Jun as a father was unfortunate enough, but compared to Tang Susu, he realized she was the truly unlucky one.

With the investigation nearly complete, Xue Yang drove straight to Shi Chengxuan's house.

He arrived quickly but sat in his car for a full half-hour, mentally preparing himself.

He figured there was an 80% chance he'd walk in and be carried out, and a 20% chance he wouldn't come out at all!

After another fifteen minutes of hesitation, he couldn't delay any longer and slowly made his way to the front door. As soon as he pressed the doorbell, the door opened. He braced himself and walked in, ready to face whatever came his way.

Xue Yang entered Shi Chengxuan's house in the morning and didn't leave until past two in the afternoon. Although one of his eyes was blackened and he limped, at least he had walked out on his own two feet.

Despite the beating, Xue Yang felt a strange sense of relief.

Chengxuan hadn't said anything harsh, only instructing him to keep an eye on his father. He hadn't even mentioned the Tang family, leaving Xue Yang unsure of his intentions.

Unbeknownst to Xue Yang, shortly after his departure, Shi Chengxuan returned to his study. A video played on his computer screen, showing Tang Susu calmly exiting a private room, the footage on repeat. Clearly, he had known everything all along but had chosen to remain silent.

Pulling out his chair and sitting down, Shi Chengxuan lit a cigarette, his dark eyes fixed on the grainy, looping video.

Although the surveillance footage was blurry due to the dim lighting, anyone familiar with the person could easily identify them by their mannerisms.

The timestamp on the video showed 9:09 PM when Tang Susu left the room, just fifteen minutes after Tang Qiming's early departure.

Xue Yang had been thorough. After investigating the Xue family, he went to Blue Jazz, found the waiter who had served that private room, and extracted the truth through certain methods.

The drink Tang Susu had consumed was spiked, but it was harmless, designed only to make her sleep soundly until morning.

She had finished the entire drink.

So, how had Tang Susu, after consuming the drugged beverage, walked out seemingly clear-headed? And how had she managed to keep Xue Jun in the room for nearly five hours before he was nearly crushed by the chandelier?

Shi Chengxuan was deeply intrigued.

This enigmatic woman compelled him to unravel her mysteries, to hold her in his grasp, and to witness her true self.

The cigarette in his hand burned down, ash falling onto the stack of papers beneath. The papers shifted slightly, revealing the name printed on them: Qi Yang.

Xue Yang had assumed Shi Chengxuan would take action against Tang Qiming after this incident. However, days passed without any movement, leaving him to wonder about Chengxuan's plans.

Due to his father's involvement, Xue Yang hadn't dared to contact Chengxuan, his curiosity growing with each passing day.

Tang Qiming had, of course, heard about Xue Jun's accident. He had even attempted to visit Xue Jun in the hospital, but Xue Yang had intercepted him with the excuse of inconvenience, preventing the two from meeting. As a result, they remained unaware of the mishap.

After temporarily taking over the company, Xue Yang hadn't halted the collaboration between the two families, leading Tang Qiming to believe that the events of that night had gone according to plan.

As for Tang Susu, one of the individuals involved, she acted as if nothing had happened. She hadn't confronted Xue Jun nor Tang Qiming, who had "sold" her off.

It wasn't that she didn't want to act, but Gou Dan sensed someone watching her. Although the individual hadn't done anything, they didn't give off a friendly vibe, suggesting the need to lie low for now.

Tang Susu was no longer at an age where she would react dramatically to every setback, so she naturally agreed to Gou Dan's suggestion.

It had been five days.

Lin Sheng, keeping his surveillance secret from his teammates, had been closely watching Tang Susu.

He had initially thought she would be the key to their breakthrough, but her life was a monotonous routine, with no men around, utterly boring.

Sitting in his car, he couldn't help but complain internally. Watching her was less interesting than watching Shi Chengxuan.

Wasn't she supposed to be Shi Chengxuan's mistress? What a load of rubbish! In all these days, Shi Chengxuan hadn't met her privately.

If their captain hadn't explicitly warned them against watching Shi Chengxuan, they would have made progress by now, instead of being stuck for days without any leads.

He acknowledged the captain's warning but remained somewhat skeptical.

Finally, Tang Susu left her house again. Lin Sheng quickly followed, watching her enter a coffee shop. After a moment's hesitation, he followed her inside.

The coffee shop was quiet, with a few scattered customers. Tang Susu sat by the window, ordered a milk tea but didn't drink it, her gaze fixed on something outside.
